“We’re all about facilitation of individual and community development.”

AFRICA, (African Family Relief Income Creation Assistance,) Inc. is a registered non-profit organization with founders and board members located in California and Indigenous Executive Directors located in South Africa and Kenya.  Its goal is to initiate and build foundational infrastructure within rural and slum areas of Sub-Saharan Africa.  Through localized community centers we are working to provide a broad range of accessible social services.

Initiators:  In the summer of 2002, Paul and Sharon Davis embarked upon a life-changing excursion to South Africa.  Visiting the slums in Mitchell's Plain, South Africa outside Cape Town, close relationships were formed with Greg & Ursula Matthei-individuals who have been active for many years in community outreach programs within the region.  The following summer they traveled to the Korogocho Slum outside of Nairobi, Kenya.  There they met and befriended nationals Euticuals Wambua and Musau Mutia, who for years have invested their lives providing a broad spectrum of encouragement, leadership, and educational assistance to their countrymen.

It became quite apparent to both Paul and Sharon that the medical, educational, and career training services readily accessible within the United States have been and are quite unlike those found in Africa.  A strong and convenient infrastructure typically taken for granted here in the United States is an uncommon luxury in the areas they visited.  Approximately seventy percent of the population of Sub-Saharan Africa live below the line of poverty ($.70 a day).  For these individuals, basic needs for readily available clean water, food, clothing, shelter, sanitation, transportation, healthcare, education, and job training are often limited or unavailable regardless of the talent or initiative of the peoples.

In a continuing relationship, Paul and Sharon have worked with Executive Directors Greg, Euticauls, and Musau to establish reachable goals for furthering the development of potential within their respective communities and spheres of influence.

Prior to the initiation of AFRICA, Inc., Paul and Sharon along with family and friends, financially assisted these enterprises through personal donations to help locals of Mitchell’s Plain, South Africa, Lucky Summer, Kenya, and Machakos, Kenya with educational materials, establishment of jobs, provision of funds for food, clothing, and various training equipment and medical assistance.  Funds also went toward sponsoring children attending school, to supplement teacher salaries, for school supplies, for building projects such as a day care center and additional classroom space.  The needs, however, far exceeded their personal donations.  To offer others the opportunity to share in the joy of funding life-changing projects, Paul and Sharon decided to initiate a non-profit organization.

Though poverty is tangible in the areas in which AFRICA, Inc. works, so is the human potential.  It is encouraging to have witnessed the fact that a little goes a very long way in the hands of talented African men, women, and children motivated to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others.
