Following are a few testimonies of thanksgiving to AFRICA,
Inc. from the Children and Youth at the Lucky Summer Youth At Risk
Community Center, Korogocho Slum, Kenya (May, 2005).
-
I am Brian and am 3 and half years of age. I have one brother
whose name is Patrick. I love going to school and am in baby
class, in our class we do a lot of modelling clay and poem
reciting. Thank you for enabling us to learn easily for we have
most of the material like modelling clay.
-
I am Salem, I am six years old. I am a Muslim and I live with my
mother who is single. We are seven in our family and I am the
youngest. My mother operates a small kiosk that sells fish near
our home. I am in pre-unit and I will join class one next year.
I am happy for you are making it easier for us here at the
school for we can write and take porridge at break time on daily
basis.
-
My name is Agnes, am 5 years old. I live with my uncle for am an
orphan. My parent died of HIV/ AIDS, and we were left the three
of us. Am in the nursery class and I always get the first or the
second position when we do the exams. I like this school for we
have many reading charts on the wall of our classroom.
-
I am Jack, am 11 years old and am in pre-unit. I come from coast
province and am an orphan. I live with a grandmother who felt
pity on me and took me to stay with her here at Nairobi. I had
not gone to school before when I was at coast but my grandmother
spoke to Mr. Wambua who offered me a chance in the school
without paying the fees, although it took time for me to be
comfortable with small kids, I thank God for they love me and
they help me to read simple English. Thank you for your support
to our school and my grandmother.
-
My name is Sylvia, I am 7 years of age and in class one. I love
being here at the centre as its very enjoyable. I still love
reading and writing. When I grow up I want to become a doctor, I
want to say thank you for your support to us and may you be
blessed as you continue supporting us. I would like for our
headmaster to be able to get money to buy for us playing kits
like slide and swings, also for my dad who is jobless to get a
job and for me to heal from typhoid.
-
My name is Dorcas, am 20 years old. Life here at the centre has
been enjoyable although sometimes we face difficulties
especially when the sewing machines are out of order, but God
has been so faithful and He has been providing to us through
your support. Am happy to be at this centre because I can now
knit and sew my own clothes and knit clothes for my family
members at home. I want to thank you for your support and
someone who is an orphan like me have much to thank you , we
even take a cup of porridge and it does us well since sometimes
we come to school without breakfast. Pray for this centre to
improve such that we can be taking a simple lunch here, and for
the school to have more students. There are many young people
who are idling within the slums. Please pray for my family that
consists of my brothers and sister to get courage due to loss of
our parents in the course of the last two years who suffered
from HIV&AIDS.
